Whenever we see TV advertisements for brands, we wish to have similar skin nature as the one displayed. The ladies can testify to this. I’m sure to many ladies, having smooth skin is a selling point.   1. Eat Food With High Antioxidant

Foods rich in antioxidants have a high protective effect on the skin. Some of these foods include fruits, vegetables. Sometimes feeding on probiotic foods may help in treating skin conditions like acne and eczema. Skin damage caused by ultraviolet light rays are also not left out.

  1. Stay Hydrated

Drinking water is a good way to stay hydrated. Evidence exists that drinking water improves the skin. It improves the skin’s elasticity and reduces any sign of dryness and roughness. Water therapy is a good way to practice this. 

  1. Do not Pop Pimples

Pimples are trapped oil, sebum and bacteria. When pimples are popped, the liquid and bacteria is released to other parts of the face. This increases the chances of more pimples forming. The popped and exposed pimples may also leave a scar on the face.

 It is better to allow the pimples to dry up. When they dry up, the area is left clean.

Using hot water on the skin can cause dry skin. When this occurs, try using lukewarm water.

Skin photo damage, which is damage due to sunlight, is linked to alcohol. Drinking alcohol can also cause dehydration. Dehydration causes dry skin and premature aging. It will be in your best interest to reduce the effects of alcohol by limiting its intake.

Moisturizing the skin after a daily skin wash helps to prevent sebum production. Moisturizers also help the skin to stay hydrated and add an extra layer of protection.

Choose a facial moisturizer, and apply it daily on the skin. This keeps the skin smooth.

Skin exfoliators such as scrubs can help slough away dead skin cells that build up on the skin and make it rough. For safe exfoliation, apply scrub in a slow circular motion using very light pressure. Do this only once a week.

Wash your face with gentle and non-abrasive alcohol free cleansers. Do this in the morning and night before bed time.

Alpha hydroxy acids are plant and animal acids used in skin care products. They can be used as treatment for acne and skin discoloration. In addition to this, they exfoliate, promote collagen and blood flow within the skin. 

Generally you are advised to use gentle products that do not irritate your skin, and that your skin reacts better to.

Some home remedies that may improve skin appearance and help in maintaining it include:

  1. Use of Coconut Oil

This is an effective moisturizer with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. These properties help in treating certain inflammatory skin conditions. But since it may clog skin pores, its use should be limited.

  1. Using Essential  Oils

Essential oils like lemon and rose oil can be diluted with carrier oils and applied to the skin. This reduces wrinkles and treats some skin diseases.

  1. Using Honey

Honey is a natural exfoliator, with bioactive properties. Therefore its properties are beneficial and instrumental in treating some skin conditions.

  1. Oatmeal Baths

Oatmeal baths help the skin to retain moisture. It is also a remedy for some skin conditions. Oatmeal baths can be made domestically. Using Oatmeal skin care products is also advisable.

  1. Humidifiers

Humidifiers add moisture to the air which prevents the skin from drying. It serves as an effective remedy for psoriasis

  • Use Toner
  • Use oil-free cleanser
  • Wear sunscreen regularly
  • Wash the skin in the morning and before bedtime. Wash the hair daily too.
